Class 14-Technology, Teaching, and You

Class 14-Technology, Teaching, and You
Tonight is our last class before our final. I will miss our cheers and Mr. B and of course Robby with his hamburger tattoo… We had our final review and talked Mr. B into letting us do Lab 13 outside of class… YEY! Not only did we do all of that, but we did course evaluations, which of course everyone scored mister B with a perfect rating!!! Ha-ha. The end of the semester is near, with only a final and the ATC standing in our way. Hopefully this time I will pass, and all is well!

Class 13- Issues in Implementing Technology in Schools

Class 13- Issues in Implementing Technology in Schools
Tonight we had our last trio share! Oh no! They will be missed, I assure you. Ha Ha. I think there was a sense of relief knowing that we would no longer have to sit through the dreaded activity portion or the trio share! Not only was it the last night for the trio shares, we also talked about ethical issues and legal issues. After we were done discussing this, we learned about E-portfolios in Lab 12 and began a little work on our blog/wiki projects. We actually did ours based on Forrest Gump… Don’t ask, it wasn’t my idea, I swear. I had to do Watergate, which is fine with me. I always found it interesting and it was easy for me to find information on a topic I enjoyed reading about.

Class Twelve- Distance Education

Class Twelve- Distance Education
Tonight was our presentation for the Trio Chapter Share. We had to talk about distance education. It was a general summery of the way it used to be through the ways it has evolved into what it is today. Even though I was extreeeemely nervous, I think we did really well. I did my best not to read off of the Power Point slides and to make eye contact. However this was difficult at times because a certain someone in the back row kept winking at me…. I won’t name any names, but he has a tattoo of a cheeseburger on his hip…. I think you can figure out who I'm talking about. Everyone seemed to like our activity with the discussion boards, which was a first. Usually with the activities people dread having to participate. But with ours, people seem motivated to have fun with it.

Class Eleven-Audio Visual Technologies

Class Eleven-Audio Visual Technologies
Tonight we learned more about Podcasts and went into great length about the pro’s and con’s. We had the trio chapter nine share and also went into an explanation of Lab 10. Lab ten had to do with Universal Design. I still remain set on my beliefs from last week about the Podcasts. I did learn a lot from the trio chapter share. However, again it was as though the activity was not as informative or well done as it should have been. This week we are beginning to post things in our Blogs/Wikis. Next week is my groups turn to do our trio chapter share. I starting to freak out, I hope everything works out as planned! We met tonight to begin work on the PowerPoint, so hopefully it functions properly during the actual presentation.

Class Ten- Using the Web for Teaching Technologies

Class Ten- Using the Web for Teaching Technologies
Tonight we learned about Blogs, wikis and Podcasts. I think that blogs and wikis CAN be helpful and educational, IF the people using them take them seriously. However, as far as the Podcasts goes, I think there should be other ways to get that information. Possibly posting it on YouTube or the like would be one solution, because not everyone has an IPod. I know I don’t have an IPod and I'm certainly not going to go out and waste my time and money on something to try and keep up with the other students in the class. I think that there has to be another way to keep every student equal and not give certain ones advantages like that. The trio chapter 8 share was about using the web for teaching and learning, and it went into greater detail on Blogs, Wikis, and Podcasts.

Class Nine- Using the Web for Teaching and Learning

Class Nine- Using the Web for Teaching and Learning
Tonight was a short night; we had the Chapter 8 trio share and learned about web quests. They were really interesting, but I don’t know how often I would actually use them in class. As a teacher I think I’ll have to be kind of hesitant on assigning computer work for my students. Not every student has a computer at home, or if they do, they might not have access to the internet. Not all schools have sufficient computer labs as well, so some students may have to go to a local library. I don’t think this is fair to the student to make them go out of their way to do homework like this. Every once and a while, I think it would be fine, but to do it on a regular basis is not fair.
